This PR 5210 series of digital process weight transmitters combine reliable and accurate weight acquisition offering easy operation and set-up. This can be confirmed by Ronald Laubscher at Master Foods in Rosslyn, Pretoria, where an additional six weight transmitters have just been installed by local agents Carl Zeiss.

Master Foods was pleased with the performance of the weight transmitters already installed, which led to the recent purchase of the new range. It has been some years since Philip's Electronic Weighing provided industrial weighing technology in South Africa and most customers are unaware that these products are still available in this country.
A broad range of strain gauge load cells can be connected to these digital process weight transmitters and output is provided in the common ProfiBus-DP format. Users have direct access to all configuration and operation levels via the front serial interface using a Palm 105 PDA. A windows engineering tool allows convenient configuration from a Windows PC or laptop.
The digital weight transmitter is specifically designed for use in typical control cabinets. Multiple instruments can be easily lined up in the control cabinet and the full galvanical isolation of all input and output circuits from supply makes the instrument especially easy and safe to integrate. A set of typical built-in weighing functions support adaptation to individual process requirements without programming.
Some history
Philip's Electronic Weighing in Eindhoven, Netherlands, was responsible for manufacturing the weighing products sold locally until a change of company ownership took place in 1998 - and Global Weighing Technology was born. In 1999 Sartorius bought this company and Carl Zeiss has now been appointed as the official distributor for GWT SA.
Intelligent transmitter with digital indication
The Leo 3 is a digital pressure indicator designed for permanent installation. It is a combination 2 wire 4-20 mA digital weight transmitter with programmable dual local indication of pressure in selectable units: (bar, mbar/hPa, kPa, MPa, PSI and kp/cm2).
This is part of Instrotech's successful Leo range of digital pressure weight indicator manufactured by Keller of Switzerland and is available for vacuum or pressure measurement.
Standard ranges are 0 to 400 kPa (4 bar) absolute, 0 to 3 Mpa (30 bar) absolute, 0 to 30 MPa (0-300) and 0-70 Mpa (0-700 bar) with a measuring rate of up to 90 times/sec. The units work off supply voltages of 8 to 28 V d.c. with temperature compensation over the range 0-50°C.
The pressure connection is standard G quarter inch parallel thread with a seal and the electrical connection is via a Binder back entry plug. Manufactured to ISO 9001 standards, the Keller Leo 3 offers IP65 environmental protection against dust and low-pressure water jets. Dimensions are 76 x 125 x 50 mm, with a weight of 210 grams.
The output display is in mA. Besides 4 to 20 mA analog current loop, the weight transmitter also has an RS485 interface to output the pressure value and access instrument characteristics. The analog output can be programmed without applying pressure to the instrument. The min/max and zero adjustments are performed using the two pushbuttons on the front of the instrument.
